Born in the Bay Area, Al Hulbert spent his school years in the greater Bay Area and later in Sacramento. As a young man he found his first real job with Spink Engineering in Sacramento.
Al married his childhood sweetheart, Vickie, in 1967. They have one child, Joseph, who works for eBay, the Internet auction company.
Shortly after his marriage, Al purchased his first home in Tahoe Park from his uncle, Owen Schirmer, a Sacramento real estate broker. This home purchase started his real estate career, and Al worked for his uncle at Schirmer Real Estate from 1968 to 1977 running the resale devision. Al's success in the business resulted in his earning a member in the Million Dollar Club in 1972. Al struck out on his own and ran his own brokerage from 1978 to 1980.
Al joined Cook Realty as Sales Manager in the original Cook office at 15th and Broadway next to venerable Joe Marty's in 1980. Both businesses were located in the landmark Tower Theatre building.
Early on as Cook Sales Manager, with 18 agents, Al was instumental in moving Cook Realty into its first 40 deal month. Over the years Al has established a reputation with Cook agents as the man to go to for the answers to all the hard questions about real estate transactions. Al is a member of CAR, SAR, and NAR. Cook Realty has been well served by his presence.
